They All Count's Top 5 Premiership Volleys Ever

Welcome back readers. After a weeks holiday They All Count has returned, did you miss us?

As a special treat for you, to apologise for our brief hiatus, we have compiled a top 5 list of the best ever volleys in the Premiership - that is correct, a look at the finest art in the game of football, compiled in an easy to read numerical format, perfect for those of you with short attention spans.

In no particular order - lets crack on ey?

1. Tony Yeboah - Leeds vs Liverpool

Ghana's favourite son and Leed's (2nd) favourite African shocked the Premiership when he arrived from Germany, with pace, power and technical ability that Leeds fans will never (let you) forget (about.) There where two defining moments that propelled Yeboah to legend status, not just with Elland Road faithful but throughout the nation. These where, as you might expect, two absolute blaster strikes - with his volley against Liverpool being our personal favourite and the reason why he has made it into this esteemed list of goals. This effort wins extra points for two important factors. Firstly Tony is backpedalling when he strikes the ball, but secondly and most importantly he gets +100 bonus volley style points by 'pinballing' the ball of the cross bar, always a treat. This goal, plus this beauty, led to thousands of school boys screaming 'YEBOAH' before any volley attempt - and rightly so.

2. Steven Gerrard - Liverpool vs Blackburn

One thing that can certainly be said about the players in the list is they are no strangers to a sweet strike - a full foot-to-ball connection, where the force of a thousand rhinos is transferred into the ball. Hyperbole perhaps, but Steven Gerrard certainly has a field of rhinos at his disposal and is not afraid to deploy them. Although this goal is arguably more of a half-volley than a true volley, it has been allowed in on merit. As soon as he has the ball under his command, with a beautiful first touch, and the ball has bounced perfectly - there is only ever going to be one result. For my money there is no better striker of the ball with their laces than Stevie G - you know, those lace shots that you try at 5-a-side and the ball ends up behind you.

3. Trevor Sinclair - QPR vs Barnsley

Ok, ok...I realise this isn't in the premiership, but its much to good to leave out. Trevor Sinclair, farmer of fine hairstyles, occasional England international and scorer of the best overhead kick goal ever. Forget Peter Crouch's malcordinated scarecrow overheads, this one is a work of pure art. Not really much more to say, other than this goal won the 1997 goal of the season for a good reason. Official data as to the amount of overweight Sunday league players who sustained massive spinal injuries trying to recreate this goal were unavailable at the time of going to press. Watch and admire.

4. Paul Scholes - Manchester UTD vs Bradford

No one, but no one, strikes a ball as sweetly as Paul Scholes. That's it, I've said it....I'm going balls out of the bath on this one. What makes this goal EVEN more amazing, is that is by no means a one off. If, in some strange 'Saw'esque situation where I had to put my life on someone scoring a volley from the edge of the D, then I would put my life in the little ginger magician without a doubt. If Alex Ferguson had not decided to sell David Beckham and they both still played together at Man UTD, then this goal could quite easily be reproduced for many years to come - even if they could no longer run, just wheel them both on, Becks take the corner, Scholes on edge of the D - goals upon goals.

5. Matthew Taylor - Portsmouth vs Everton

This is my favourite goal ever. Just beautiful. If Matty Taylor's potential had been even a quarter as brilliant as this goal - and he actually fulfilled that potential - at a decent club - then he could have been one hell of a player. Regardless of this, just look at that beautiful volley. Oh yes, and this one. Matt 'my left foot is a weapon' Taylor.

  2. Undoubtedly an absolute corker Chris - but it was not included for two reasons. 1. With all due respect to the lad, I would say that was a once in a lifetime strike - everyone else on the list have a brace of excellent finishes. (mayby one day he will prove me wrong) 2. The author may or may not be a gooner - mayby.
