Premier League Title Race Closest in 10 Years

Thanks to the Chelsea slump in the past few weeks, the 2010/11 Premier League season is the closest title race in over a decade. With just three points separating the top four teams after 14 games, the title race is as close as it's ever been since the Premier League was founded.

With Chelsea losing 3 of their last 4 games, a Premier League season which looked likely to become a procession a month or so ago has become one of the tightest in the competition's history.

The race suddenly seems so wide open that the manager of the 6th-placed team - Spurs' Harry Redknapp - can reasonably proclaim that his team are title contenders.

Not since the 1997-98 campaign, back when Leeds finished 5th and Dion Dublin finished as top goalscorer for Coventry City, has the gap separating the top four after 14 games been so small. On that occasion, Manchester United led Arsenal and Blackburn by just one point. Arsenal went on win the title with three games remaining.

Meanwhile, with just 28 points, Chelsea have picked up fewer points than any side to lead the Premier League at this stage since Manchester United in 1997-98.
