TAC's Top 5 Manchester derby goals

Ahead of tonights Manchester derby, here we have 5 (well, 4) of TheyAllCount's favourite goals from Manchester derbys past and present.

1. Denis Law - 1974 - Man City 1 - Man Utd 0

First up we have a deft little backheel from a player who crossed the Manchester divide more than once, Denis Law. If you are wondering about his lack of celebration it is because at the time Law believed that the goal would be the one that relegated Man Utd (it later turned out that they would have gone down whether he had scored or not.) This is also a goal of note, not just for his sublime finish, one that was even more remarkable in the 70's than it would be today, but also because it would mark Law's last game of his professional career.

2. Andre Kanchelskis - 1994 - Man Utd 5 - Man City 0

Ok, not strictly one goal, but Kanchelskis's hat trick, plus one beautiful goal from Sparky make this rout one to remember.

3. Craig Bellamy - 2009 - Man Utd 4 - Man City 3

Unfortunately this goal was completely overshadowed by the events towards the end of the game, but let is not be forgotten how good Bellamy's first goal of two really was.

4. Michael Owen - 2009 - Man Utd 4 - Man City 3

Coming a full 6 minutes into an injury time of only 4, Owens goal was certainly a controversial one. What it did do is reignite the idea that Owen may still have some goal left in him. This has yet to be proved. Still a great goal none-the-less.

5. Roy Keane - 2001 - Man Utd 1 - Man City 1

Not actually a goal, but thought this might be worth a mention. One of the most crunchy tackles from one of the undisputed kings of a crunching tackle, Roy Keane. It looked like a revenge tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland, it probably sounded like a revenge tackle and when Roy decided a year later to disclose in his autobiography that the tackle was intentional, with an aim to injure Haaland, he was slapped on the wrists with a £150,000 fine and a five-match ban.
